On Tuesday, April 4th Mayors from across Southeast Ohio gathered in Athens to show appreciation for those volunteering in their communities through AmeriCorps, Senior Corps and VISTA. The Mayors are all members of the Mayors' Partnership for Progress (www.mayorspartnership.org) and meet regularly in Athens to address common issues. In attendance: mayor Patterson (Athens), Mayor Redfern (Crooksville), Mayor Goosman (Amesville), City Manager Greene (Gallipolis), Mayor Feeney (Chillicothe) and Athens Commissioners Chmiel and Eliason.
Amesville will be working with SOPEC (Southeastern Ohio Public Energy Council) and SolSmart to gain greater access to solar options for the residents in and around Amesville. SolSmart provides recognition and no-cost technical assistance to help local governments reduce barriers to solar energy growth. With the help of our team of national and local experts, cities, counties, and towns are cutting red tape to make it easier for homes and businesses to go solar. Local governments that achieve these goals are eligible for SolSmart designation, providing national recognition that they are “open for solar business.” By encouraging solar energy development at the local level, SolSmart helps local governments bring new businesses to their community, promote economic growth, and foster the creation of new jobs. http://www.gosparc.org/ ![]()
ACRE, located at 29 North Franklin Street, houses the "New Coonskin Library" which is a FREE lending Library using books that have been donated by residents of Amesville. Books are located on the front patio area of ACRE (East side of the building facing Franklin Street). This Micro Library houses about 1,000 books on topics ranging from gardening, history, travel, classics and modern fiction. Take a book any time. Return it when you can and donate other books if you want.
In addition to the library ACRE also hosts the "Amesville Micro Museum". This is a small display showing the importance of the Coonskin Library, Underground Railroad and local agriculture to Amesville. The original books from the Coonskin Library are housed either at the Ohio History Connection in Columbus or at the Ohio University Archives.
